Buying from Cofi-Com; some frequently asked questions…
I'm a small roaster, can I still buy from Cofi-Com?
Of course! We do supply larger roasters certainly but we also have a thriving number of smaller roasters and startup businesses that we supply. In fact, our Anvil Road office specialises in this and the team there is always delighted to discuss origins, pricing and availability.
Does Cofi-Com do Speciality coffee?
We certainly do and always have. Specialty is an important part of what we do and we continually source and stock a wide range of 80+ micro-lots and selected origins aimed at Specialty roasters. Our pricing is realistic and we aim for Specialty coffees that have an excellent taste profile and are affordable.
IS THERE A MINIMUM ORDER?
For delivery, minimum order is one pallet which is 16 bags. However, for collection from our warehouse, the minimum order is a single bag upwards. What a lot of customers do is arrange their own transport which gives them the flexibility on their order quantities.
CAN I GET A PRICE LIST?
We carry between 800 – 900 different coffees at any one time with prices dependent on the daily exchange rate so we don’t have a general price list. What does help us with pricing is knowing what origins you are interested in; for example Ethiopian natural, Costa washed. Otherwise we can send an origin snapshot of 8 or nine core coffees.
IF I WANT TO BUY FROM COFI-COM, WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
We keep it very simple, we send you an account application and once this is received back, it takes a working day to activate. With the account set up, orders can be placed. First three orders are payment in advance and thereafter on standard 30 day payment terms.
I’M AN OVERSEAS ROASTER, CAN I ORDER FROM COFI-COM?
We can quote on prices ex- warehouse Sydney and provide the necessary export documentation but would recommend that freight is arranged by the customer.
WHAT IS A SPOT SALE?
Coffee prices are quoted on the day based on a currency exchange rate algorithm.
Buying coffee on spot means that the price paid between orders will fluctuate. We always advise our roasters the spot price and will confirm this by email.
Can I order a pallet of mixed origins?
No problem at all, we do this all the time. A pallet for us is 16 bags, normally layered by origin and shrunk wrapped.
WHAT IS A FORWARD SALE?
This is where a roaster and Cofi-Com enter an agreement that fixes a price and amount of coffee over an agreed period of time. Cofi-Com warehouses the coffee and as amounts are called off, the coffee is invoiced. A forward sale is also a commitment from the roaster that they will purchase the coffee agreed to.
Forward sales are ideal to guarantee origins for blends where consistency and pricing is a critical over a fixed period of time.
HOW DO I PAY FOR MY COFFEE?
Payment can either be by EFT or credit card. [We don’t accept AMEX/Diners] As with most businesses, we do have to pass on a small credit card surcharge. All payments are processed through our West Ryde office.
I'm a home roaster, can I order from Cofi-Com?
Yes but please note we only sell by the bag. However, we do have a number of lines that are in 24.2/30kg bags. To order, we would raise an invoice and once paid and arrange for collection from our Seven Hills warehouse.
