Lima Reis Family
Sul de Minas is one of the most traditional and diverse growing regions in Brazil. Coffee was introduced in the region around 1850. Since then, coffee has become one of the key economic strengths in the region. Located on the southern part of Minas Gerais, it’s the largest producing region in Brazil with an estimated 600,000 hectares of coffee trees under cultivation. The area supports thousands of coffee growers - predominantly with small farms who work in a very challenging environment. The mountainous topography with steep slopes allows limited mechanisation. However, large valleys, rich soils and gentle climate produce an exclusive terroir ideal for speciality Arabicas.
The altitude varies from 750 to 1350 MASL and the climate pattern is mild; summer is hot and wet with winter dry and warm during the days. Average temperature is about 20ºC (though region’s more susceptible to frosts) with regular rainfall.
Bela Vista’s history begun in 1923 and has remained in the Lima Reis’ family since then. The farm originally was a cattle station before moving totally to coffee. Today the farm is managed by the family’s third generation who continue the traditional values of quality coffee and caring for farm employees. The family uses modern agricultural methods that have minimal environmental impact and are passionate believers in sustainability.
