Ripe blackberry, blackcurrants, dark chocolate, hint of citric acidity, really lovely. Cupped twice; we scored at 92.
Our Makwa Farm coffee is grown in an area between the towns of Ruiru and Thika, an area recognised for its good coffee growing area due to its good, volcanic soil and 1100-1250 mm annual rainfall. The farm is owned and managed by a local company, Chania Mwahota Ikai, who took over ownership of the farm in 1975. The estate has constantly improved its growing practices and today has approximately 92 hectares under cultivation. The coffee is handpicked and delivered to the wet mill the same day. Water from the Chania and Kariminu Rivers is used for the wet processing, recirculated then drained into seepage pits. All the parchment is dried on raised beds for a more even drying process and once dried, sent for final processing at a dry mill.
Makwa Farm was sourced for us by our sister company in Kenya, Taylor-Winch who have an incredible network and team based in Nairobi.
