Profile
About the producer
Huehuetenango Growers
Huehuetenango is located in the Western highlands of Guatemala, near the Mexican border. The coffee is grown in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes, the highest non-volcanic mountain range in Central America which has good rainfall and loamy, rich soils. Warm winds from Mexico make the area immune to frosts. Warm summers and mild winters, with a distinct dry and rainy season produce coffees that are distinctive to the area. Farms are small and the owners known for their careful hand harvesting, focussing on ripe cherries. Many of the farmers are from the Mam community, one of 22 communities of Mayan decent.
