The Thuita -Kathinthiuku mill is located in Tharaka Nithi County, in the eastern foothills of Mt Kenya. Tharaka Nithi County is home to the Chuka, Muthambi, Mwimbi and Tharaka people of the larger Ameru community. The Thuita - Kathinthiuku mill is part of the Thuita Farmers’ Cooperative Society which is made up of three mills, Mwirithe, Kathinthiuku and Kiamuriuki. .
The society's first seedlings were gown in 1952 with the Society established in 1954 and formally registered in 1986. Today the Society has a workforce of 13 permanent staff drawing coffee from over 2500 local growers.
