About the region

Producing Region

Yungas, Santa Cruz and Beni

Harvest

July - November

Coffee exports from Bolivia don’t even appear in official figures. Banana’s, potatoes, sugar cane and soybeans dominate agricultural exports.  For a country the same size as Ethiopia, the amount of coffee grown is probably close to that of a large Brazilian estate. Coffee growing was encouraged by the Bolivian government and supported by the US as an alternative to coca mainly around 2011/2011.

High coffee prices at the time meant farmers found coffee attractive as a crop but as prices declined, coca rose in popularity again.  Exact figures on how much coffee is grown is impossible to verify. Some South American exporters are working directly with specific farms and assisting with advice and training to produce speciality quality coffees.

Main coffee growing areas are Yungas, Santa Cruz and Beni. Out two organic coffees are from the Caranavi region.
